Hi,

I go a USB flash memory 'stick' a few weeks ago. The package stated the
device would work with WIndows XP drivers, with no special downloads needed.
I tried the device, and XP recognized it and assigned it a drive letter of
"F". I was able to save some material but when I tried to shut down the
device using the safely remove hardware icon on the tool bar, it wouldn't
shut down. So I tried shutting down windows, causing the system to hang. I
tried again after restarting, with the same results....and the "F" drive
showing up in the My computer screen.

Now it get's interesting! For Christmas we recieved a Brother MFC210
printer/scanner/fax. Installed it fine, printed material, faxed material,
photocopied...all fine. When the machine is turned on, My computer shows my
C, D, E, and "F" drive for the memory stick....if I turn the printer "OFF"
the "F" drive disappears....turn it back on...it re-appears. If I leave the
my computer window open, and then open a new Control Panel, Performance &
Maintenance, system, Device Manager window...under disk drives...C , D, E,
are present...F is NOT!!

I tried putting the memory stick in to save some more material...and now
it's assigned drive "G", and still won't shut down, causing my system to
crash.

Any ideas about what's going on? I've updated my printer drivers from
Brother, there don't appear to be any new USB drivers from Microsoft.....

Please reply to my hotmail address and (E-Mail Removed)

Thank You!

I do not have problems with the USB sticks here, except for that
Windows does not return correctly from the Hibernation Mode when my 1
GB stick is connected at this moment.
You may want to try this: In the Control Panel > System > Advanced >
Environment variables add a new system variable
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
and set this to "1". Open the Device Manager and click View > Show
hidden devices. Now remove all USB stick entries and then re-connect
the device.

Hi,

Don't show your true email address in the public chat room to avoid spam
mails and virus attack.

It also happened on my USB 2.0 flash drive that the safely remove hardware
icon doesn't work with my Intel 915GAV Mobo.

To safely remove the memory stick, double click My Computer, right click on
the removeable drive (in you case is the G drive) and select eject and left
click once, then unplug the memory stick.

Note: if the memory stick has LED light, make sure it has turned off before
you unplug it.
