I have in the past have gotten device driver errors and ram errors. But I am
still getting these errors even though I am only running my video card with
windows upnp drivers and no sound as either the onboard sound or my sound
card soundblaster audigy don't work. I have had my entire computer ( all
hardware plus powersupply) checked out by at least 3 technicians and a
computer engineer and they all say my computer is aok. I have even contacted
my isp and my connection is aok. I has been suggested that when I have
doneloaded updates that some files were corrupted. I am not sure as to this
theory. After I have installed windows, firewall and viruscanner and updated
them all runs fine for a day or 2. Then the errors start, device driver error
and/or ram errors. I have even ran windows utility to test my ram and no
problem is found. the only device I have is an older cd-rom and a old video
card (both at least 5 yrs old) and they check out fine by the techs.
Needless to say this is quite frustrating as this has been happening for 3
months now. I have tried repair installations of windows and device drivers
and even erased my harddrive with killdisk (35 passes with 100% conformation).
The only solution I can think of now is to return my computer ( I bought it
3 months ago as a kit).

New motherboard (computer 3 months old) + old CD & video card = bad juju

Get new videocard + CD ROM.

Even though you've used a "windows utility" to check it, it sounds
like it might nevertheless be bad ram. Try downloading Memtest86+
from http://www.memtest.org and give it a good run for maybe about
six hours. Zero errors is the only acceptable result. If errors show up,
post back here for further advice.

I do have a new video card (ATI X800 XT all in wonder) and new dvd-rw drive
but I put in the old ones to see if there would be any change in all these
device driver errors I keep getting. I get these errors every few minutes to
a few hours.

I have taken my motherboard, ram, cpu, and harddrive into a tech shop and
they tested all these and found nothing wrong.

Rob,
Please state what motherboard\cpu you have and how much memory.
Have you tried using just one stick of memory?
Checked your cmos for correct settings.AS you have no sound is it
enabled in cmos or onboard w\jumper?Also,when you install a sound
card, did you disable onboard sound? In device manager, any yellow
marks?Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers? What size drive
and how old?
Are these errors all different or pretty much the same? Please post the
errors as we can't see your monitor.SP1 or SP2?The more specific you
can be,the better answers you'll get.

C.

Well I downloaded Memtest86+ and the results are this: tests 0 through 4 - 0
errors, test 5 - 900 errors, tests 6 through 7 - 0 errors, test 8 - 19
errors, tests 9 through 10 - 0 errors.
I guess the techs did not have this software to test the ram as they said
the ram was fine.
I will return the ram and replace it with new ram.

Not yet. 900 errors is almost too many errors, and the ram
itself might not be the problem. First try reseating your ram:
Shutdown and unplug your computer, and keeping a hand or
bare arm touching the metal of the computer case (to avoid
static discharge) remove the memory modules and re-insert
them. You might also try other memory slots if any are
available. If that doesn't help, enter the BIOS and set the ram
timings to less aggressive settings.

I have done this when I ran Memtest86+ and the results were the same. When I
took the memory back to the store they sent it back to the manufacturer and
they tested the ram and found errors. I am now running new ram and have no
errors even when I re-ran memtest86+ on my new ram.

These errors have been resolved. The problem was with bad ram.
