OK, here goes. I have a Dell Latitude D830 running XP Pro, which has an
imbedded Verizon broadband card. The issue is that periodically Windows
loses the ability to detect the card - in other words, I can be happily
surfing, or just have the broadband service connected and not actively
searching, and sometimes several times a day Windows will suddenly fail to
detect the broadband card. I have had NUMEROUS calls to Dell support, and
they have replaced my motherboard, chassis, broadband card (twice). I do not
believe this to be a problem with the card, but instead believe it to be
something within Windows. When the issue occurs, if I do a restart of
Windows - the problem still is manifested when Windows restarts, but if I
instead do a shutdown follwed by starting Windows - then the problem is
solved. So, I need to understand what happens differently to device
detection between a restart versus a shutdown/start, so that I can try to
determine what is causing this MADDENING error.
Oh, also Dell deleted and reinstalled their broadband card utility software,
and I have also set up a shortcut that connects to Verizon broadband using
the card - using the Windows Dialer to completely bypass the Dell/Verizon
broadband utility software. Conencting either way the problem still
manifests.
I am at robert_e_bone AT hotmail.com if anyone has any suggestions.
THANKS!!!!!!!
