Ran

it appears your sound card drivers need to be reinstalled, I suggest you
logically remove the device, then the drivers, and reboot have your sound
card drivers cd handy. if you don't have one, then download them from
creative.

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked my system using PC Wizard 2008 and
identified no Creative devices.
