Developed on XP, broken on 2000 Server

I am not a developer, just a lowly sys admin. Some inhouse
development was done on a single PC running XP. The
code was then dropped onto a three tier group of servers
running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. It has problems.
The three tiers are, web server, app server and sql server.

Does this surprise anybody? Are there not differences
between the libraries on XP than on W2K? Could those
cause unexpected results. I don't have specifics on
the errors as we are in the midst of installing Visual
Studio for debugging.
Can somebody point me at any documentation regarding
differences between the XP and 2K that would relate to
coding differences?
