I have a Scsi hard disk that has failed. Its under warranty so I'm entitled
to a replacement and my files were backed up so thats not a problem.
My problem is this, if I send it back to the manufacturer I know that its
likely to be reconditioned. When they repair the fault at the factory whats
to stop them seeing my files on the disk ?
Is there any way to destroy the data before I give it back
(It spins up noisily but isn't seen in dos or windows.)

Yes, place a BIG magnet on the side of it!!! j/k. But honestly a magnet
wouldn't hurt. Seriously though, these guys recondition 1000's of hard
drives, if they searched through everyone's hard drive they would have to be
truely mad! Further, I think the recondition process returns all bytes to 0
in the hard drive, so best case scenerio, everything is erased, worst,
someone fixes it and has a look at your porn folder. If you have files that
are that sensitive, fold the hard drive in half and tell them it came that
way...!
