"The destination does not support long file names"

Was dragging/dropping (moving) a collection of files from
one dir to another and got a popup error that "The
destination does not support long file names. Please
enter a name for this file." This is an NTFS volume on a
cluster server - should be no problem with long file
names - where is this coming from?

Thanks in advance - JJ
