Hi folks
I have an 80GB hard drive. I split the hard drive into two partitions as C:
drive with 50GB and D: drive with 30GB drive, and installed Windows 98 Second
Edition on C: drive and Windows XP Pro on D: drive.
The ASUS P3B-F motherboard in my computer went bad, and I needed to have access
to information in the hard drive. So, I removed the hard drive from my computer
and put it into another computer as slave. Unfortunately, when I put the hard
drive into another computer in order to have access to some files, the computer
didn't recognize the C: drive (I think the motherboard in that computer didn't
support the capacity on the C: drive), but I was able to have access to D:
drive.
What is interesting is that when I click on my computer, I can see the C: drive
but when I click on it to see all the files, it says "the disk in the drive C
is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" so, I aborted and never
formatted since I know if I go along with that I will lose all the information
on the C drive. So, after this experience, I removed the hard drive, and
ordered another ASUS P3B-F motherboard in order to have my computer back with
my original hard drive.
Today, I received the motherboard, and put my hard drive and everything back
together. When I tried to boot from my hard drive, it didn't boot up. So, I put
a bootable floppy disk, and run FDISK to check partition table. C and D
partition tables still exist. When I was at the a: prompt, I typed "c:" to see
if I was able to have access to C: drive. It goes to c: prompt as "C:\>", but
when I type "dir", it behaves like C: drive is not formatted and says "Invalid
media type reading drive C. Abort, Retry, Fail?" Is the problem MBR (Master
Boot Record)? How can I solve this problem without losing all my data on the C:
drive? Please help.
Thank you very much in advance.
