Desktops and Group Policy

I'm having couple of problems with GP.

1) On XP machines the IE proxy settings are detected for
some users but not all. I.e if a users logs in and gets
the correct proxy settings, the next user logs in and gets
no settings for the proxy at all, even though the proxy
settings are the same for both GPOs.

2) The desktops are redirected to a shared folder on the
server, and despite a fast link and relatively low number
of users, the Start Menu/Programs can take a surprisingly
long time to appear.

Any ideas or things I can try gratefully received

1)
Use the Policy Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)

2) Try to turn of the offline cache for that share.

Thanks for replying,

If I make the proxy settings per machine doesn't that mean
I will have to manually set the proxy on each rather than
assign it via the Users group policy?

The proxy address is (at this time) the same for the
different users groups but the default home page is
different (intranet pages) and I will lose this facility
if it is machine based?

[Christoffer Andersson] No that means it will be based on machine accounts,
and not for each user

[Christoffer Andersson] The Setting "Make proxy settings per-machine (rather
than per-user)" Only applies to the Proxy Setting

Thanks I'll try that out.

I've made sure theres no caching on the shared folders for
the redirected start menu and it still seems pretty slow
though.

I may split the share into several smaller ones for
individual user groups to see if that helps.
