When I want to share a folder, but also want to get it accessible right from
my desktop, should the folder be located in the "public folders" , and have
a shortcut on my desktop ?

Thanks Malke. Still a related question: I want to share several hundreds of
gigs (photo's, music...). The Vista public folder seems to be located in the
system partition (under "Users"). So, do I need a large systen partition or
is that public folder still recognized if it is being moved to another disk?

Why even bother moving the Public folder? Simply purchase another large hard
drive, either an internal one, an external one, or perhaps a NAS and make a
shared folder there for your media. Perhaps Windows Home Server would meet
your needs. It sounds like just what you are looking for. I believe you can
buy just the software now if you have a spare box to put it on.
