Once upon a time my desktop icons had no color background for names so the
text appeared to be floating on the wallpaper, rather than on a solid color
(Appearance/advanced/icon - both item and font color were grayed out) I
only want a color back for selected items.

Is there a reg key that will reset it?

Thanks

Try these:

1. Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Performance Settings button.
On the Visual Effects tab... Check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the
desktop"

2. Right > click on Desktop > "Arrange Icons by" and ensure Lock Web
items is cleared.

What is Iconoid?

-Save and Restore Icon positions for each (or every) screen resolution
-Transparent icon backgrounds or use any color
-Select any color for icon text
-Automatically hide icons when you don't need them and show them when you do
-Automatically or manually select the best color for the text background
-Quickly minimize all windows so that you can see your desktop wallpaper.
-See the help files (which include screen shots) for even more information.
