I copied a bunch of files to my desktop, then deleted them to the recycle
bin later, but also deleted some of my shortcuts by mistake. I restored those
shortcuts but now they don't work. I get the following message; "Windows can
not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate
permission to access the item".
But, any of the shortcuts that were "not" deleted and restored still work
fine.
If I launch any of the programs contained in any of the shortcuts that
are not
working from the start/programs menu, C: drive "exe", etc., they load and
run fine. But,
if I create a
new shortcut from the start/programs menu, C: drive "exe". and drag it to
the desktop, it gives the
same error
as the restored non working shortcuts. My desktop will not let me create a
"working"
shortcut for "anything".
I tried doing a "restore" from system restore and each restore point I
chose would not complete the restore and told me that my system could not be
restored to that point. A week or so ago, I installed SP-3 and that process
deleted all of my restore points I had "before' the SP-3 install. But,
everything has
been working fine after SP-3 install until I loaded up my desktop with a
bunch of files and then deleted them. With the "entire" desktop full of
files, is it possible that some
of those files "overlaid" my "non" working shortcuts ??
I sure hope there is an easy fix for this, like a corrupted .ini file or
something. Please, someone help me.
