I am finding that the desktop search cannot locate anything in my mail files
(Outlook and Outlook Express) that is more recent than about 10 days. My
advanced setting indicates that indexing is complete.

If you're talking about Windows Desktop Search I suggest you post to that
forum.

Because that's where the WDS experts are. We don't get many questions about
it in here, nor is it covered in this group. This group is for questions
about the XP OS, not about any/every MS program that runs on it. There are
separate newsgroups or forums for many different MS applications. Don't
you want to go where the chance of getting help is the greatest?

Thanks for the explanation and yes I want to go to the most appropriate
forum. However this question was posted elsewhere and we were directed to
this one. This is probably a shortcoming the organization of the Windows
product newsgroups which leads to some mis-posted questoins.

Where did you post originally? These public newsgroups are all peer to
peer. Everyone that posts here is a volunteer, so there is no moderator to
decide what goes where. It just gets established by practice.
