I keep my desktop resolution at 1024x768. When I restart, however, it
returns me to 800x600. This occurs each time I restart. My videocard is an
ATI Radeon 8500. I have the latest drivers.

How about drivers for your monitor?

In the Display applet in Control Panel, check your monitor's refresh
rate. Perhaps it is set too high and it cannot provide a 1024x768
resolution at that refresh rate.

I'm able to change it once I startup. But every time I reset, it defaults
back to 800x600

Does anyone else besides you, use this computer? Do they prefer an 800x600
display? If yes, they may be resetting the display. This is one of those
settings that is "global" instead of user specific. Whatever setting is in
place at shutdown, is the one that will appear for the next logged on user.
There are some third party utilities that can preserve display preferences
for each individual account (see www.dougknox.com for one of these).

No. I'm the only user of this computer.

Try installing the inbuilt video drivers. See if that helps.
