My in laws have a Dell Dimension that I installed WinXP Pro (blew away
the regular WinXP and installed my copy of WinXP Pro, boxed version,
not OEM). Since then the desktop will periodically change
resolution. There appears to be no pattern or cause (ie doesn't
always happen on the same app, etc..). Logging out and back in clears
it up. The resolution changes in such a way that the desktop gets too
big for the screen and you have to move the mouse around to scroll
through the entire desktop. What would cause this? My guess is it's
a driver issue. The Dell downloads site lists two types of graphics
cards/drivers for this physical machine (using the Dell number). I
picked the first one and it appeared to work, and for the most part
does. his is not the onbouard card, it's a PCI ATI. I was thinking
of trying the other, does this sound right? What else could cause
this?
