Until recently, when booting my PC, my desktop would show the Background
scene I use as well as the different shortcut icons at the same time. Now
what happens is that the background scene does appear during the bootup
process, but the shortcut icons do not show initially. After a number of
seconds, the background scene disappears and turns blue. It is when it turns
blue that the icons finally appear. After some more time, then the actual
background comes back on the desktop, along with the icons. This entire
bootup process is noticeably slower than before. I believe this may have
started once I installed XP/SP2.
Another possibly related problem is that until recently, the Windows build
version always showed in the lower right hand corner of the desktop. I
turned this on a couple of years ago with PCMagazine's RegistryRobot. Now
the build version only shows in the blue screen mentioned above; once the
background comes back, the build number goes away.
Any clues?
