I have XP at home, and the desktop items on my pc
are "see through". I just got xp professional here at
work, and there are big colored boxes behind all of the
words of my desktop items...it's not a big deal i guess,
but I want the see through ones, it looks nicer! is this
something anyone can help me with? Thanks.

Right-click on your desktop and select:

Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web (tab)
and uncheck "Lock Desktop Items", click OK and APPLY.

Also, check this setting:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance settings >
Visual Effects, place a check next to "Use Drop Shadows
for Icon Labels on the Desktop", then click "apply".
