Squire, sorry for the huge delay in replying- tried this but, alas, to no
avail. The jumbling seems to be completely arbitrary although I did notice
that it does, on occasion, happen close to the time I exit or enter the
Yahoo messenger program which seems to suck a huge amount of memory.
Any input would be much appreciated!

Right click on the desktop and click arrange Icons by,
Then click Auto arrange to remove the check mark.
Then click Align to Grid.
Rearrange the Icons to your liking, and note how they snap into the correct
position.
They should stay where you put them.
