Hi,

I've noticed that sometimes I'll close a program and
my desktop will flicker and all the icons will switch to
some generic none-specifc icon and then they'll one by
one revert to their correct logos. I have no idea what
might cause this bizarre behavior. It happens fairly
quickly (between 1 and 3 seconds) but I can't help
wondering what it was that caused it to think for some
reason that the icons (which were all correct) might not
be right and it decided to refresh them all.

I'm seeing the behavior the OP described on bootup. It's a minor annoyance
but will those tweaks prevent it?

It's something to try. The second one has a fix to turn the feature
back on.

This is perfectly normal windows behaviour. All that is happening is that
the desktop environment is refreshing itself. Sometimes this happens while
windows is busy (like closing the processes from your application) and it
does take a couple of seconds to refresh the icons. There are ways to stop
it from happening, but it is inadviseable to do so, because the inability to
refresh can cause the windows explorer itself to stop working. You can tell
when this happens because you will be staring at the background image and
nothing else.
