While attempting to create a Tcpip printer on the server, something went south and the server had to be rebooted. When it came back up, there were no desktop icons displayed. We have to use task manager to open programs and the like. Any idea what may have been corrupted and will a system restore likely fix this problem.

It could possibly be a problem with the local admin
account profile, try creating a new account on the server
with admin rights, login with that and see if you can see
your icons.
