Desktop Icons are covered up with the windows "flag"

Recently something was coerrupted in my computer that left
all of my application icons on my desktop covered with the
windows four color flag. Is there any way to remedy this?

Delete the file ShellIconCache from the Windows directory and
refresh the icons.
