I have windows 2000 and recently something happened where
all application icons on my desktop are covered over with
another icon. I can see parts of the correct icons
underneath. I have tried changing the icons under
properties, but this does not change things. Any
suggestions?

Right click blank area of desktop and set icons to auto-arrange. Then, turn
it off and put the icons where you want them, if you like.
