I have a friend who is having some major probs on Windows
XP Home. Any start menu icon or desktop icon will not
execute. You can access them by going through the run
procedure or through ctrl+alt+del. She ran system restore
and restored the computer to a time she knew that they
were working fine, but they still had the same problem.
My guess is that its either a virus or corrupt files. Is
there a quick fix for this problem or is a full re-
install the only solution (obviously this is a last
resort at it is very time consuming and lots of work will
be lost).

Thanks for your help

After running an up-to-date anti-virus utility, your friend should
then run one of the malware/spyware checkers (e.g., Adaware). This
sounds most like a symptom of a couple of the latter.

Dan

You responded to someone with this problem

Recent update took "System 32" off of the desk top start
up. Since then, no short cuts work, nor can I access
Control Panel, "Find file", explorer from the start menu
When I attempt any of these actions, my desktop flashes,
all of the short cuts & task bars dissappear and then
reappear, but no activation of the shortcut.

I can access files via the program: excel, word, AOL, but
nothing for explorer based efforts. Even if I try to run
C:\windows\explorer.exe, it does same as above

If any one can give me an idea, I would appreciate it

Dav

Can you help? I ran the Norton anti virus, haven't done ad ware. I thought it was associated with an update from MSN
