Please note that any Read Only setting set on any "folder" is general
"ignored" by XP. This has always been the fact that the Read Only
"setting" is only "processed" on the individual files. If the Desktop
is set to read-only, you will need to:
1) Check the PC to see if any "malware" or virus is "controlling" the
PC. Clear out any found.
2) Check your XP user account and make sure it is not set to a
"limited" user. It seems that "limited" users can not "save" setting
changes.
3) Check any / all security software. Some may protect the Desktop
settings.
