Protocol:
1. Create a "folder" desktop shortcut
2. Copy shortcuts to files into the folder
3. Open the folder shortcut
4. In the View menu, choose to display only object names (Choose Details)
5. Shrink the displayed window as small as possible
6. Close

Later...

7. Open the folder shortcut.
The displayed window is full-screen, and other details are displayed
(Size, Type).

I haven't identified the event that changes the opened-icon view; maybe it's
the warm restart (or whatever we're supposed to call it when Windows
redisplays the desktop).

Any thoughts on how to keep desktop shortcut View settings from changing to
some annoying default? Or any thoughts on how I can set the annoying default
the way I like it?

I am Windows XP Home SP2.

Regards,
Bob
