For some reason whenever I try to place a new folder on my desktop, or even a
shortcut to a folder on my desktop, if I try to open it, it gives me a search
window instead of showing my whats in the folder...

I know its probably a simple setting that changes this, but for the life of
me I can't find the solution...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Rey,
I've got the same problem as 'Food Snobber'.I followed your
instructions in

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q321186 and
nothing happened after I typed 'none' in the Value data box (and clicked
OK).I useto single click shortcuts on my desktop to open folders once,but
after mucking about with the 'file types/file folder,things went wrong for me.

Try this:
In Explorer click Tools > Folder Options > File types tab > Under Registered
file types, click on icon [NONE] Folder > Click the Advanced button below >
In Edit file type under Actions "explore" should be in bold letters meaning
its the default. If not select it and click the button "Set Default". If
"explore" is not present... click the new button, type "explore" in the
Actions field and on the Application used to perform action: field click the
Browse button to C:\WIDOWS\explorer.exe. Click Open. Back to Edit file tyoe
box... click explore then click Set Default button... OK

I tried to do this Rey, but while "explore" is the default, it will not allow
me to check or edit it to go to C:\WIDOWS\explorer.exe

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

If that doesn't correct the issue (and it should) use this automated edit:

Search or CMD Opens When Double Clicking a Folder or Drive (Line 18)

To use the VBS File: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file.
You will be prompted when the script is done.

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this
is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These
scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

I had to download the vbs file and everything works ok
