Desktop folder redirection bandwidth question

Hi,

I have been thinking about using folder redirection because students
and teachers sign into to different machines. I was wondering what
kind of bandwidth is required to do folder redirection without offline
files? I know if the server goes offline that the files will
disappear.

My guess is that this is almost like directory listing e.g. once
loaded will stay in memory. My guess is also that the only bandwidith
that is required is loading of the icons. The actually bandwidth
that is taken is if a document or file was actaully loaded. e.g.
someone saves a word document that when the file is actually double
clicked on.

I guess the question is that if someone re-directs the desktop how
often does the client computer check the network?

ttyl,
