--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was making a dvd and when it was done, all of my files on my desktop were
gone.
I was using a commercially produced program to burn the dvd.
My files on my C drive are still here, but the files in folders on the
desktop are gone.
I did a search, they are not on my computer anymore.

I did a system restore to yesterday, they were still gone. I restored to
Tuesday and they were still gone. I accessed my files that day, so I know
they weren't already missing.

System Restore, as its name says, will only restore system files.
It will not restore user files. Your best bet is to restore the files
from your backup medium.

If this is not an option then you could use one of the many
third-party undelete programs. If the files are important then
you must install your hard disk as a slave disk in some other
WinXP PC and install/run the undelete program on that
machine. Any activity on your current machine will reduce
your chances of retrieving your files.

Use Google to search for keywords such as
Windows undelete download
