I have an Emachines system with XP Homne Edition. Last weekend the desktop
display began disappearing after less than a minute. It would go off, then
come back and do this several times and finally stay off. The NumLock LED
stayed on all the time. I downloaded the Taskbarplus! program, but I can't
get it to stay up long enough to get the program into the system. How am I
going to get the desktop to stay up long enough to try to fix it? Is the
answer to use an XP CD and come up that way?

Have you tried another monitor, or reseating the cables to the monitor?

The first thing I did was to replace the monitor and cable. It had no
effect. I just wonder about using an XP CD to boot up and maybe run a repair
mode. Could there be some code that got scrambled somehow?
