Desktop changed by itself...

Hello, strange that when I click on the little icon in my taskbar to tet to
my desktop icons, they appear in a different window and in white background,
and when I right click to get to "Properties" it doesn't give me the proper
dropdown menu.

Until a couple of months ago of so, I was able to get to the other desktop
and see there all the icons on a colored background, and got the proper
dropdown menu too, etc.

If I want to see my old colored desktop, I have to shut down the computer!
True, I didn't mind this change until I needed to got to the properties and
it wasn't there in the new desktop.

Any suggestions as to why the change and how to get back my "old" desktop?
Thanks so much for any help.

Adela

To minimize all open applications to the taskbar, leaving only the desktop
on your screen: WinKey+D

I assume the "little icon in [your] taskbar" is named Desktop: This is the
Desktop Toolbar, allowing you to access stuff on your real desktop without
having to minimize all open applications. To remove Desktop Toolbar if it's
confusing you, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar | Uncheck "Lock
toolbar" | select Toolbars | uncheck Desktop Toolbar | lock the toolbar.

Oh thank you PA Bear! The WinKey+D brought me my colored desktop. That was
easy! ) How can I make the "little icon in [my] taskbar" (yes, the one
that says "desktop") bring me the REAL desktop instead of the other, white
one? On the other hand, do you think I could just leave it alone being that
now, thanks to you, I can summon my REAL (lol!) desktop?

Thanks again! Adela

The "little icon in your taskbar" named Desktop is merely a shortcut (quick
way to open) the Desktop Toolbar. It cannot be used to get to "the real
desktop." If its presence confuses you and/or you don't wanna have Desktop
Toolbar available, disable it per instructions in my previous reply.

Use WinKey+D as a shortcut to "the real desktop" instead.

PS: Yes, I've seen your post in OE General but I haven't the foggiest idea
of what you're talking about, sorry.

Adela-
I think that you're referring to the [Show Desktop] icon that minimizes everything
that's open on your desktop.
Try: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 61 right side

Thanks so much again. Yes, I'll delete the one I now have and will make a
shortcut of the "real" desktop which is how I had it all the time before and
it changed by itself. lol! Thanks again. Adela

P.S. OMG I'm so sorry! I reversed the forums by mistake. I meant to post
the desktop problem in the OE and the other one in this forum. And, yes,
the "LIST" post is very weird...

shortcut into the "real" desktop instantly! Thanks again! Adela

P.S. I'm sorry I used the wrong forum for this post which PA Bear just let
me know...I wanted to post a windows related (weird) problem but posted it
in the OE instead. What a mixed up kid I am! lol!

You're welcome Adela- Glad you got it sorted out!
Kelly has some really handy fixes there, & her site has helped me out many times.
Thank you for reporting back with your results.

BTW-PA Bear is a good man & will help in any way that he can.
A while back, he & I worked out an issue that be both just happened to be
experiencing, with OE(in Outlook Express.General) & he stayed with me throughout the
whole thread, till we got it worked out.
I mean, this thread went on for weeks, so I think a lot of him for doing that, as
well as the help he gives to others.

Thanks for your kind words, Gary.

Gary refers to the "thread that wouldn't die" (11 September through 23
December 2007) about an older version of Site Advisor plug-in that caused
some pretty crippling problems in Outlook Express:
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...80bf939a915741
&ff

@Gary: A later Site Advisor auto-update (c. May or June 2008) started
causing some bizarre and quite annoying display issues in Google Search
results here. The only way I got it to stop was by downgrading back to
v2.6.0.6253 (thanks to Carol in that thread) and killing the auto-update
function by disabling the Service (as in services.msc) named "SiteAdvisor
Service" (which points to the file SAService.exe in Site Advisor's Program
Folder). Later versions of Site Advisor include at least one other related
Service and I could never figure out what it does. I have not tested or
installed another version since. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." <w>
