I just got my new computer back and was trying to change the pattern on the
desktop background. I no longer have an option to even pick a pattern. In
my old computer, I picked a pattern and pattern color and was able to pick a
picture as well. Is there a setting I need to look for to give me these
options again? Or are these features gone forever?

How are you trying to do this and what happens when you try? Error
messages?
Are you trying to make the changes from the Display Properties applet?

If so and the changes don't happen try running the edit on Kelly's site:
