Folks-
I run XP/SP2 and am having the following two problems:
1. My Desktop icon configuration gets completely muddled up after every
system restart.
2. My Taskbar which I have locked at two lines high gets reset to one line
high after every system restart.
What can I do to prevent these unwanted Desktop and Taskbar changes during a
restart.

For your taskbar problem try:
Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm
Under Taskbar Problems try the Restore to Default option.
Then reset the taskbar to your liking.
