I have already posted a couple of messages about this issue, and would like
to thank those who have taken the time to reply. However, I still have not
found an adequate solution, and the ‘problem’ now appears to be more complex
and than I initially thought.
Here is my original message:
For some reason, every time I modify any of the desktop settings on my Dell
Dimension 9150 (appearance of Start menu, Wallpaper colour etc.) they have
defaulted back to the XP classic theme the next time I reboot.
Does anybody have any ideas? It's annoying, but also probably indicative of
something more sinister going on in the bowels of the Windows Registry...
I have since noticed that desktop settings are not the only ones to default
back to their original state. I have a Logitech programmable keyboard which
looses all its customization every time I reboot, some Mcaffee anti-virus
applications that do the same… and I have to recreate site profiles for sites
I manage through DreamWeaver (cannot store any logon details).
I also note that I cannot change the attributes of some of the files in the
Windows directory to anything other than “Read-only” – this is usually
related in some way.
What is stopping me from writing all these changes to my system so they are
not lost every time I reboot? I wish I could offer a prize to whoever can
solve this… but for the moment, they will have to be satisfied with my
heartfelt thanks.
