I have a desktop alert for new email - it appears - then the message itself
vanishes. Is Outlook sending this some place or how do I find the message?

I just want to clarify - you get an alert that you have incoming mail but you
can't see any new mail in your Inbox?

Are you filtering the view perhaps? I don't know what version of Outlook
you're running, try clicking on View > Current View. Messages is what should
be checked.

Are you using the Unread Messages view, perchance?

I am using current view - messages and in Outlook 2003. I can't find the
messages anywhere - and it is just one address or two that it is happening
too.
