i have a second desk top that when i turn it on with the power button , it
begins to boot from the hard drive and when it gets to the xp screen -
instant shut down -

when i try a second start up , it will now only get to the bios screen and
-instant shut down -

from this point on , instant shut down over and over .

i tried start up from safe mode and after f8 and after choosing safe mode
startup ,

-instant shut down - .
even after removing the video card , the same thing . i have no idea what
could do this and any help would be welcomed .

Sounds like failing capacitors on your mainboard... but could be a number of
hardware issues, like a busted CPU fan, overloaded power supply, etc.

How old is this computer?

First thing to do is open the side and turn it on... ALL the fans should be
spinning.

Second thing is to shut it down and look closely inside at the capacitors...
Take a look at these websites for more than you want to know about this
problem...

Does this happen if you try to start in Safe Mode. Have you checked your PS . Try also to take out your HD and install it as a Slave to a working computer to see if it does not have an issue.

Post back with results and we can continue with something else
