HI

I have a single domain and i am migrating into a new 2003 active directory domain . Should I make one Root domain and then start a new tree with my domain name or my actual domain can be made the forest root. What are the benefits of having special forest root if you just have single domain.

Thank
Neil

It's almost impossible to give any guidance on this without knowing more
about your organization - how large, how you work, etc.

Maybe you are asking whether to have an empty forest root domain or not

Personally I think this just adds administrative overhead. But for example here is an article talking about the security benefits of it.

Crai

yes that is what i am excatly trying to figure out ; given that i am going to have only a single domain should i get into creating a dedicated root for just root purposes. Is it worth it. I personaly again do not see a reason for it .

Unless you forsee adding an additional domain to the forest, then I don't
see where you would need an empty root ...
