How to deploy Win2k SP4 into DC and member servers in an AD environment

Hi All,

What is the best practise to deploy Win2k SP4 in an AD
environment ?

My current situation:
- 1 Domain Controller running on Win2k SP3
- 4 Member servers also running on Win2k SP3

Should the SP4 be deployed using a top down method e.g.
starting from the DC ?

Recently, I tried deploying SP4 to the rest of the member
servers except the DC. I did not perform restart
immediately after deploying SP4 on the member server and
scheduled them to restart in the middle of the night on
the same day. I have encounter the "Ordinal 175 not found
in Userenv.dll" error when logging into these member
servers in the next morning. I have managed to resolve the
issue by restarting these servers and went into "explorer"
(thru Ctrl-Alt-Del) and re-applied SP4.

Suddenly, the DC still running on SP3 which I did not
deploy SP4 also have the same issue "Ordinal 175 ...
Userenv.dll" msg.

Question:
1) What should be the best practise to deploy service
packs in an AD environment ?

2) Did the SP4 changed something in the AD after I have
deployed SP4 into the member servers ?

Thanks,
TM
