How to deny directory listing?

To my chagrin I just noticed that viewers of my FP2003 site can view all the
files in my directory: Entering www.mysite.com/Directory/ generates a page
listing all my files in the 'Directory' folder.

How can I deny this directory listing to my viewers?

Unfortunately, www.mysite.com does exist as a genuine website, so I can't
see what you mean.

However, if you add a "home page" (e.g. index.html - depending on what your
site uses) to that directory, the problem should go away

Contact your host to turn of Directory Listing
- or at Trevor points out, add a home page file in all folders with a redirect to the root home page
(like index .htm if that is your home page file name)

In that directory, place a page named index.htm. It can be a blank page.
That will prevent people from viewing the list of files. It's that simple.

You would normally get your host to do this, or it can be done through your
hosting account's control panel (like CPanel).

It's also normal to simply add a default file to the directory, too.

Files in the protected directory or those in sub webs with password
protection cannot be seen.

What you can also do is place in each sub-directory an index.htm/html page
that advises the viewer they are viewing an unauthorized directory and then
after 15 seconds or so re-directs the page to the authorized entry point in
your root directory. As I remember, by default when someone goes to /selects
a sub-directory the browser automatically looks for an index.htm/html page.
