Denied access to hard drive error message

Situation:
Win 2Kpro operating system. Orignial boot hard
drive (80GHz)(master, primary IDE bus) re-jumpered as
primary slave (D;\), new 120GHz configured as boot drive (C:\).

Problem:
Although the 80GHz drive is recognised in the BIOS
and configured in drive manager, which recognises it as
active & healthy, when I try to open the drive, I get an
access denied error message. I am unable to access any
data on this drive now.

Nothing has been deleted on the drive, so how can I
persuade Win2K to access this drive as a slave?
