I would like to create a demonstration website on my laptop. I have
frontpage 2003. My goal is to create a mainpage where up to five users can
login. From the mainpage I would like to create five separate pages for each
of the users. These pages would include some way to launch a number of
applications such as excel, ms accounting, etc. The laptop would mostly be
at home where DSL internet access exists. So to summarize... I need to:

* Publish a website to my own machine
* Make the website available from outside of my home via internet
* Configue a mainpage that would act as a gateway to individual pages
* Configure individual pages to allow the launching of applications
installed on the laptop

- I have an unused domain name that could point to an IP address on the
machine
- I know that there must be a configuration to communicate through the home
router
- Not sure if more than one user could log on to the website AND launch
applications

Looking for guidance on this. I am not a novice but good advice is always
valuable

You really need to reconsider this.
If you try to run ( serve ) a website on a home computer
you will in all likelihood be hacked in about 10 minutes.

Additionally, users who try to open apps on your machine will
have the application on their machine open if it is installed.

To do other wise is a huge security risk.

Plus, the concurrent connection limit on WinXP Pro is only 10, and that does
not mean 10 users. 1 person (user) can conceivably use all ten connections
in one session. Then, the computer has to be rebooted.

Much thanks for the timely reply. Would Virtual Server and/or VPN connection
afford me any protection against hackers and is the vulnerability you speak
of exist with opening the router or the website itself? I welcome your
opinion

VPN would give you protection.

Both the website and opening the router will get you hacked.
