Dell - XP - EarthLink

I guess the problem is the lack of integration by all of
the above. The problems that I'm having were not there
before with other OS, Vendor and ISP.

The solutions that I used are to me workarounds and that
just adds one more marble to the bucket that say's its not
worth putting money into a computer with all of the
corporate hacking and shoddy software design that's
becoming so prevalent. Go get a smart phone.

Anyway, I would like solicit some technical opinions on 8
problems that occur with the above system.

Could not get a page to display. Solved by unchecking
Proxy in two locations under Control Panel - Internet..

As a just in case scenario I was trying to reinstall IE
and the file wouldn't communicate back to where ever and I
assumed that I have to recheck the Proxy boxes to get it
to work.

EarthLink has this secure area, My Account used to create
names, etc. I could not get in because of java and
cookies, even though I have removed all internet security
in order for the program to run. Solved it by putting
myaccount into the trusted site list.

Earthlink has a pop up window that covers 40% of the main
page and it wants another log in to create a 'personal web
page'. I can't get rid of it nor log into it. The above
methods did not work. It is really obnoxious and would be
grateful for some help.

EarthLink has a tool bar that duplicates the branded IE
tool bar, both displaying at the same time. The earthlink
bar and associated tray icons eat up resources and are not
needed. However, I get disconnected when I close them. I
would appreciate some smarts on this.

EarthLink has an accelerator and I will add that it works
very well. However, a drop down window requires me to log
into it every time I connect. Like all of the above I
believe its lack of integration and the customer is left
on their own and so must turn to the smarts in the
newsgroups. Anyone else see this.

I have McAffee and its all bright and red sitting there
too in the tray eating up resources. When I log into
Earthlink it gets kicked out of the tray.

McAffee came with the system and I have to reduce the
security on my machine just to see the user interface.
what is it doing in the background.

owe ya all

Steve

As a troubleshooting process, I would uninstall the Earthlink software
completely, and then test IE and AOL to see if they're working correctly.
If not, you can proceed with troubleshooting by examining AOL related
issues (if any) and so on -- just simplify the setup one item at a time
until you get things working. Once you have your system working properly
(meaning that you can access the Internet and other programs are
functioning as expected), you can reinstall things you need one at a time.
After installing an item, use it for a couple of days without installing
anything else to see if you run into any problems. If not, reinstall the
next item, and so on.

Hope that helps...
