System: Dell Dimension 4600

I installed service pack 1 (1a?) for Windows XP
Professional and on reboot my Dell Wireless Keyboard and
Optical Mouse no longer function. The receiver is
connected via a USB connection.

If you can navigate to rt click MyComputer>Select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>USB Bus Controllers. Unistall all of
them if you can. Just rt click and choose Uninstall if there is an option.
Then restart and let WinXP reinstall them.
