does anybody uses RIS on dell optiplex? for some reason
the new batch of dell optiplex 270 will give us a blank
screen after pressing the F12 key. It's getting an IP
address from DHCP server, it's just after pressing F12,
the system will locks up. It seems like it is the version
of BIOS, unfortunately the system will not allow you to
downgrade the bios.

There've been some issues with the gigabit nics in this model. I'd pop over
to the Dell community forums, as they discuss this stuff in great detail
there.

I had this problem.
You need the NIC drivers in the RIS images
\\servername\reminst\Setup\English\Images\imagename\i386
and 'templates' (within i386) folders. I have a copy of
the drivers in each of these folders and RIS works fine. I
don't know if you can get away with a copy in only one of
these folders, haven't had a chance to check yet but it
works fine as is at the moment.

The filenames are:-
e1000.dos
e1000msg.dll
e1000nt5.cat
e1000nt5.din
e1000nt5.inf
e1000nt5.sys
intelnic.dll

Good luck.

I concur.

We have RIS working beautifully on our 270s, 260s, and 240s.

Why can't people learn, of fix the problems themselves?

Copy all files such as .INF, .PNF .SYS to the i386 directory. Also copy the
..INF to the $oem$\$$\INF directory.

In addtion, copy all the files to a directory psecified in the PNPDrivers
line within your unattended answer file.

The file has to go in the base OS image, not the image created with RIPREP
