Dell monitor enters "PowerSave Mode" at random

We bought this PC (Dell) in June of this year, and it came bundled with a 17"
widescreen monitor. The monitor has always run in its suggested native
resolution of 1440x900 since the day we bought the system. In August the
monitor started randomly acting up.

Sometimes the screen will go black, display the message "Entering PowerSave
Mode" and then the power indicator light will change from blue to amber. Most
times (10-15 seconds later) the screen will come back back up again on its
own and everything is fine, until the next time. Other times the screen will
go black and after the message appears nothing else happens, forcing me to
power down and restart.

I have toyed with the idea of buying a new Dell monitor to see if that would
make any difference, since I would rather have the 19" widescreen model
anyway.

If anybody else has had this problem and can suggest a workaround I would
really appreciate the info.

Thanks!

Attach the computer to a different monitor and see if the problem exists. If
it doesn't, then replace the original monitor. If it does, then you know
the issue is with the computer and not the monitor, probably the video
card. Both the monitor and computer are still under warranty, so contact
Dell for repair/replacement.

Your monitor, and the computer itself, are five months old? Contact
Dell and get them to fix or replace whatever is wrong, under the
warranty.

My thanks for your suggestions. I contacted Dell today via email and
explained my problem, I'm hoping they will let me exchange this monitor
(model SE178WFP) for a new one.
