I have a Dell B120 Laptop. It was plugged into the wall and DSL
internet during a thunderstorm. I heard a pop and now cannot connect
to the internet. The laptop still recognizes the card but when a cable
is installed it still states a cable is unplugged. Is the card bad? I
have tried different cables and my DSL carrier states their equipment
is fine. If the card is bad can I not just buy another network card
for the pcmcia slot?

The "pop" certainly indicates that something fried. Either contact Dell for
repair/replacement or as you said, you'll need to purchase an external
network adapter.

From what you say, it appears that the laptop's built-in network card
is bad.

Yes, you can buy another network card for the PCMCIA slot. There are
also network cards that connect using USB.
