Dell Inspiron Me -> XP upgrade: clean install possible?

Hi,

I've got a Dell Inspiron 8000 currently running Windows Me that I am tasked
with upgrading to XP. My intention is to
a) buy and use an XP upgrade pack
b) do a clean install - install XP on to a clean, formatted, disk.

Now, my understanding (from having Googled around, and past experience with
Windows) is that if I have a valid WinMe CD to present at the right time in
the installation process, I can do this, as the XP installation proggy will
accept it as proof that this is indeed a valid upgrade and I'm not trying to
diddle Bill.

However I am worried that the "System software disk" as supplied by Dell
will not be recognised as a valid Windows disk. Can anybody confirm or
deny?

Answers gratefully received.
