dell flat screen compatibility

i have purchased a used dell flat screen to use with my windows 2000
professional system ,however it refuses to show windows after initial
application. message reads "unable to show video"then goes blank although
it goes through the start up process.help

What resolution and refresh rate do you have set on the desktop?

What resoution and refresh rate does the flat screen support?

After you have found out what the correct settings should be, boot into Safe
Mode and reset the rates correctly.
