Hello, I have a Dell Enhanced Multimedia USB keyboard that I'm trying
to share among three computers using a Raritan USB KVM switch. This
keyboard provides hotkeys along with a volume control knob and
multimedia control buttons. It requires its own set of drivers (which I
have).
When I plug the USB keyboard directly into a Windows XP, 2000, or 2003
Server machine, its drivers seem to recognize it correctly, and I get
its full functionality.
However, when I try to share it via the Raritan KVM switch, only the
basic keyboard functionality works correctly (for instance, if I spin
the volume control knob, the OS tries to hibernate - not exactly what
one would expect!)
I've tried a lot of different remedies, even reinstalling the keyboard
drivers. When I do this with the KVM switch in the configuration, the
OS always reports a "Code 24" error (i.e. device not present.) Even
after this occurs, if I plug the keyboard in directly, it will work
perfectly.
What could be causing this? Wouldn't one expect the KVM USB switch to
act as a passthru? Or could it be somehow filtering the data flow
between the keyboard and its drivers?
Thanks for any ideas...
