Dell D630 cannot hot undock "nicely"

I have multiple users with dual monitor display settings using the Dell D630.
When they try to hot undock (which this model is supposed to be able to do),
either by going to the start menu undock button, or by pressing the undock
request button on the dock, everything looks like it goes fine until they try
to remove the computer from the dock. The new hardware install/uninstall goes
crazy, the display flickers, then goes dark. It will sit there with no
display until you cold boot the system. Everything is fine after that, but I
have users that dock and undock 10+ times throughout the day! Shutting down
everytime is just not feasible.

I have been on with Dell many times over the last few weeks, updated the
bios, video drivers, hardware profiles, etc. And still the best they could
come up with is to shut down before undocking. They say it is an XP thing. My
Vista users do not have this issue.

Please help!?! I don't know what else to try...
