Most colleges have computer departments or at least some
geeks who can help you with your "gift horse" computers. If
you can't follow Richard's advice without help, ask around
the college.
If the CD drive you have is simply no good, you can buy a
DVD-RW drive that will read and write to either CDs or DVDs
for about $30-40 and one of the geeks will install it for
you.

| See the tiny hole in the face of the drive? Straighten out
a paper clip and
| insert it in the hole. Gently press inward. It is a
mechanical release for
| the tray. It is useful if something is stuck in the tray.
|
| If the tray is empty you will have to open the case of the
computer. With
| the power unplugged, remove the power connector and the
signal cable.
| Reinsert. Do the same where these cables plug into the
motherboard.. Close
| the case and power up the computer. Try the drive again.
